Dementia Action Week 2022

Published: 16 May 2022 to 31 December 2098

This week, 16 – 22 May, is Dementia Action Week 2022.

Hosted by the Alzheimer’s Society, #DAW22 is their biggest and longest running awareness campaign.

Each year, the Alzheimer’s Society works with individuals and organisations across the UK to encourage people to ‘act on dementia’. This year’s theme is diagnosis.

If you have a loved one who is experiencing memory loss, it may be time to act.

With diagnosis rates falling to a five-year low, we are joining the Alzheimer’s Society in asking you to think about those who might be living with undiagnosed dementia, and helping them come forwards for guidance and support, to help them feel empowered to take the next step. Get support here.

At our Trust, we actively work with people with dementia, supporting and raising awareness to help those living with dementia, their carers and families.

As part of our Research and Development team, we also encourage people to get involved in dementia research. You can take a look at their latest animated video here. The national Join Dementia Research video is also a very useful watch, you can see it here.

Further to this, our Older People’s Mental Health teams have recently had two papers focused on dementia published in The British Psychological Society.

The first one is ‘Family support during inpatient psychiatric admissions for people with dementia’ Rebecca Dunning and Dr Emma Wolverson, and the second paper is ‘Service evaluation of a dementia training & support package into care homes’ by Lucy Reading and Dr Sara Appleyard.

You can access the two articles as part of the journal, here.

We encourage all our partners and colleagues to get involved this Dementia Action Week. Take a look at the campaign resources here and join us in raising awareness on social media @HumberNHSFT.
