Our Trust was delighted to welcome a special guest for a visit to Townend Court, our Learning Disability Inpatient Unit in Hull on Monday 21st August. Tom Cahill, National Learning Disabilities and Autism Director from NHS England was shown around our facility visiting patients and staff on the Inpatient units, the Intensive Support Team, and the Community Learning Disability Team before hearing about our transformation plans for the future.

Thanking the teams and speaking of his visit, Tom said “Commitment to doing the right thing for people with a learning disability & autistic people and their families is there in abundance”. During the presentation of the future transformation plan for The Learning Disability Service he discussed the detail and agreed that they are innovative and underpinned by a clear understanding that change is critical in responding to the needs of the local population.

Townend Court is a bed-based assessment and treatment unit for individuals with a learning disability from across the Humber and North Yorkshire area. The unit provides individuals with acute support and intervention with a focus on integration back home into their local community. The Intensive Support Team and the Community Learning Disability Services are based within Townend Court and provide home-based services to individuals and their families.

Michele Moran was in attendance along with many of our Executive team and service colleagues. Following Tom’s visit Michele noted that it was “It’s great to see the national team coming out and listening to staff and experts by experience.”
