Remembering Her Majesty The Queen

A message from Michele Moran, Chief Executive and Chair, Caroline Flint

"Since the sad news of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 8th September our staff, our patients and our communities have been united in their grief.

Ever-present in our lives, the Queen was a constant reminder of the values of service, compassion, and dignity. These values will continue to inspire our work with people across Hull, East Yorkshire and North Yorkshire.

Her Majesty served our nation for 70 years and was Head of the Commonwealth of 56 nations. Her first Prime Minister was Winston Churchill and she appointed fourteen more, the last, Liz Truss just two days before she died. The NHS was just four years old when Queen Elizabeth inherited the throne. In her lifetime, the NHS would become the greatest health service in the world.

Over the last few days, we have heard memories of meetings, fleeting glimpses and precious letters and cards received. We have also shared our own memories from royal openings, receptions and Privy Council meetings. As it was for many of you, it was certainly a case of once met, never forgotten. Through sharing these memories, we can help one another through our time of grief and healing.

In the coming days we will be celebrating Her Majesty The Queen’s life and service with our staff and patients. We hope this gives everyone an opportunity to pay their respects and reflect on having lived through this great Elizabethan Age.

Our thoughts are with His Majesty The King, The Queen Consort and the whole of the Royal Family at this difficult time."
