This year the East Yorkshire Big Breastfeed event is taking place at a series of locations across Hull and the East Riding, and you are invited to join us!

World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every year from 1 - 7 August and aims to raise awareness of the health and wellbeing outcomes of breastfeeding. It also outlines the importance of supporting mothers to breast feed for as long as they wish. This year’s theme is enabling breastfeeding: making a difference for working parents.

The key objectives of #WBW2023 are to inform people about working parent’s perspectives on breastfeeding and parenting, to anchor optimal paid leave and workplace support as important tools, to engage with individuals and organisations to enhance collaboration and support for breastfeeding at work, and to galvanise action on improving working conditions and relevant support for breastfeeding.

To get involved in this important work this August, our East Riding ISPHNS and Hull IPHNS teams have partnered up with East Riding Children’s Centres to host our annual ‘East Yorkshire Big Breastfeed’ series of events.

The annual Big Breastfeed is taking place on Friday 4 August 2023 from 10am at the following locations:

  • Flemingate, Beverley
  • North Side Beach, Bridlington
  • West Park, Goole
  • Children’s Centre, Pocklington
  • Lighthouse Gardens, Withernsea
  • Priory Family Hub, Hull
  • Stephens Food Court (outside Starbucks), Hull

Mums, babies, families, and friends from across Hull and the East Riding are invited to come along and join us to support, protect and promote breastfeeding.

The teams organising the events will use these as an opportunity to highlight the local support available for families in the area,  to encourage families who are breastfeeding, expressing breast milk and feeding this to their baby, are pregnant and are thinking of breastfeeding, or have breastfed in the past.

The events are a great opportunity to chat, to ask each other questions, to support one another and, who knows, maybe make some friends. Most importantly, it’s a chance to come together in your local area, to celebrate everything that is great about breastfeeding as a community.
