Join our Humbelievable Bank

Published: 24 August 2022 to 31 December 2098

In the NHS, most people will know what we mean when we say our ‘bank’, however, we know that from the outside this term could be unfamiliar.

An NHS bank is made up of healthcare professionals who work flexibly, to cover a variety of hours across our local services, including our inpatient units, hospitals, GP Practices, offices and other Trust buildings. This working arrangement is not mandatory, which means our flexible workers can pick and choose hours that fit around their lives, whilst playing a fundamental role in supporting the delivery of care to our service users.

Here at Humber, we refer to the team who facilitates and supports our bank as our Flexible Workforce Team, as we feel this adequately summarises what the team is here to do – help people find flexible working opportunities that work around their lives.

Being a part of the bank is beneficial in so many ways. In this article, we would like to explore those benefits and help you understand why joining our Humbelievable Bank might be the best career move you’re yet to make.

Flexible working patterns

When working on our bank, you can pick your own shifts instantly on our online platform, choosing a working pattern that works around your life. That means that you can work as little or as much as you like, picking up extra shifts when you want to earn extra money, and keeping control of your schedule so you can enjoy things like holidays, at the time that is best for you.

Keep it interesting

When working on the bank, you can pick up shifts in a variety of working environments. We have a variety of workplaces and services across Humber and North Yorkshire, meaning that you can experience lots of different settings and travel to new places, if that’s something that interests you.

Always learning

Our bank staff have free access to our Humber learning catalogue, which means you will never be short of new things to learn. You can do a lot of these courses online, which means you can learn at your own pace and build a set of skills to take with you into your future roles.

Reap the rewards

Working in the NHS provides people with a range of staff benefits. Being on the bank is no different. As a flexible worker at our Trust, you can benefit from the range of discounts and programmes we offer to our staff, including high street discounts, training courses and the cycle to work scheme.

Get your foot in the door

If you’re unsure where you would like to work, joining the bank is a fantastic way to explore the types of jobs the NHS has to offer. You can pick up shifts in a variety of settings to help you understand what interests you – and what absolutely doesn’t! No strings attached.

Taking care of you

We can help you take care of your health and wellbeing by providing you access to our Occupational Health services. As a member of our team, we will encourage you to only take on what you can manage, when you can manage it, and we will be there for you when you need that extra bit of support.

A welcoming team

Our Flexible Workforce are a welcoming and friendly team who are here to support you to make the most of the opportunities here at Humber. As a member of our bank, you will have access to someone to speak to about accessing the shifts that would work best for you and your goals.

We also have a staff induction, where you can feel part of the team and meet colleagues who are starting at the same time of you in a variety of teams, and we always ensure that managerial supervision is available to all workers. This means that professional support and guidance will be available to help you build a career you love.
