Humber Perinatal Mental Health Team were visited by Laura Seabohn, Chief Executive Officer from the Maternal Mental Health Alliance last month. Our Trust provides the service in partnership with NAViGO and Rotherham, Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust.

Laura was keen to come along and meet the Team and had a “most inspiring day” meeting key stakeholders such as midwives, health visitors and local authority colleagues in addition to women and their babies who use the service. The team were able to present the quality of care provided and how organisations across four large geographical areas have developed and sustained close working partnerships to join up a woman’s journey through the perinatal period. Following her visit she reflected on her time with our teams and said what she encountered throughout the perinatal mental health community was, “exceptional passion, commitment, and drive to do the absolute best for women, babies, and families at this extraordinary time of life”.

The team outlined the outstanding work and innovations, such as the transformation of the referral pathway leading to significantly improved access rates to the service, with a tripling of referrals. This achievement was nominated for a Health Service Journal Award and will be showcased at the Royal College of Psychiatry Quality Improvement Conference later this year.

Laura was incredibly impressed by the work undertaken and the principles upon which the service operates. She noted that her visit showcased, “a truly integrated and multi-disciplinary team, demonstrating mutual respect across the pathway with everyone bringing equal value”.
