Health Trainers are now working with fishermen in Scarborough to improve their health and wellbeing

Published: 11 June 2021 to 31 December 2098

Our Health Trainers’ ‘Working with Fishermen’ service is coming to Scarborough, allowing the team to work with local fishermen and their dependants, following a successful two year pilot on the Holderness coast from Bridlington to Withernsea.

The Health Trainer service aims to provide a depth of knowing and an opportunity to those looking to make positive lifestyle changes. The service supports individuals in the Yorkshire and Humber region to live a healthier lifestyle, through tailored services which provide a person-centred approach.

The introduction of this programme is designed to improve the physical and mental health and wellbeing of fishermen in Scarborough.

Working from within a mobile vehicle, the Health Trainers can support, motivate and guide service users from the local fishing community in addressing any health, social, economic and wellbeing concerns.

As part of this project, the team will introduce the SeaFit programme to local residents who require support for:

The SeaFit programme is a joint initiative between the Seafarers Hospital Society and The Fishermen’s Mission, to deliver sustainable improvements in the health and wellbeing of fishermen and their families around the United Kingdom.

You can learn more about the programme here:

Working with local partners, the team can also provide regular health and body composition checks raising the awareness of the preventative measures of long term health conditions.
