Important Update - Fire Incident Within the Grounds of Malton Hospital
Published: 15 July 2026
Evacuated patients have been returned to the Fitzwilliam Ward following the fire within the grounds of Malton Hospital.
Their families and carers have been contacted individually to inform them.
Extensive checks and facilities work have taken place to ensure that it is safe for patients to reinhabit the ward, and we are working to resume normal operations as soon as possible.
Outpatient clinics are now operational. Malton Urgent Treatment Centre has also reopened.
Patients with planned appointments will be contacted with access information.
As a precaution, all patients, visitors and colleagues were safely evacuated from the hospital, with no injuries reported.
The safety of our patients, visitors and colleagues remains our absolute priority. We would like to thank our staff, the emergency services and partner organisations for their swift response and support.
Michele Moran, Chief Executive of Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, has written an open letter in acknowledgement and thanks to all who assisted during the evacuation. Read the open letter here.
