The Unintentional Injuries and Safer Sleep Team at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust hosted a successful event at St Stephen’s Shopping Centre in Hull marking Child Safety Week 2026. The event brought together a range of partners to share vital safety information with local families.

The team was joined by colleagues from RENEW (drug and alcohol service), the Road Safety team (car seat safety) and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service. Together, they provided attendees with advice and guidance on a wide range of child safety topics.

Around 40 parents and carers attended the event, taking the opportunity to speak with practitioners and gain practical tips on keeping children safe. The topics being covered included car seat safety, safer sleep practices and reducing risks within the home.

Conversations with the Unintentional Injuries Team focused on preventing common childhood accidents, such as ensuring that medicines, cleaning products and other hazardous substances are stored securely and kept out of reach of children.

Feedback from attendees was very positive. One parent highlighted the valuable work carried out by the team, while another reflected on how safer sleep guidance has evolved over the years and expressed appreciation for learning about the latest recommendations.

The event also demonstrated the strength of partnership working. Team members were able to share expertise, learn from one another, and provide families with consistent, up-to-date safety messages. Collaboration with the Road Safety team and Humberside Fire and Rescue further enhanced the support available to attendees.

The event was a great success, helping to raise awareness of child safety and equipping families with the knowledge and confidence to keep their children safe.
