Celebrating the Volunteers Working to Support Services Across the Trust

Published: 09 June 2026

A montage of Volunteer Week

In June, the Trust held a celebration event inviting all the volunteers who support the Trust to come together and to thank them for their unique contributions.

The event held at the Lecture Theatre in Willerby provided an opportunity to meet fellow volunteers and share the nominations received for the Volunteer Awards which are due to be held later this year to announce the winners.

Volunteers are a valued part of Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, supporting services to deliver the best possible care to all our service users, patients and their families. The Volunteer service is also a lifeline to many people who can access it as a way to give back or learn new skills. Volunteering can also be a valuable part of a person’s recovery journey.

As part of the celebration, volunteers shared what they thought was the best part of volunteering. Some of the comments included, “Rediscovering my identity” and “It gives meaning to my lived experience”. Others shared how grateful they are to learn from their volunteering experience, “Volunteering helps me gain new skills” and “Learning more about myself and what I’m able to do”.

Catherine Ceely, Volunteer Services Manager said, “Our volunteers make an incredible difference across the Trust every day. They bring compassion, dedication and valuable lived experience that enriches the support we provide to patients, service users and their families. It was wonderful to come together and celebrate their contributions, hear their stories and recognise the positive impact they have on our services. Hearing volunteers describe how volunteering helps them rediscover their identity or gives meaning to their lived experience highlights the benefits it brings not only to those we support, but also to the volunteers themselves. We are extremely grateful for everything they do and look forward to celebrating even more of their achievements at the Volunteer Awards later this year."
