Townend Court in Hull was assessed by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in November 2025, and the results have been released to show they rated it as ‘Good’.

Townend Court is an inpatient service, run by Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, providing assessment and treatment for individuals with learning disabilities from across Hull, East Riding, North Lincolnshire and North-East Lincolnshire. It was last assessed in 2019 and was also rated ‘Good’ then.

The CQC assesses health care services to ensure they are meeting the requirements for their service and providing optimum care to those they care for. A CQC ‘Good’ rating indicates that a service is performing well, meeting expectations and providing safe, effective and compassionate care. The full report highlights how Townend Court is performing against a range of measures, including patient safety, good leadership and facilities.

Staff and patient feedback is obtained as part of the process. The report stated, “People told us staff treated them well and a relative told us they could see their relative trusted the staff”. The service cares for people with learning disabilities and it was noted that they were given as much opportunity for individuality as possible, it said “The service supported people to have the maximum possible choice, control and independence, be independent and they had control over their own lives”.

The report goes on to say, “People had a choice about their living environment and were able to personalise their rooms. The service made reasonable adjustments for people so they could be fully involved in discussions about how they received support”.

Michele Moran, Chief Executive at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust said, “We are thrilled to learn that Townend Court has achieved a ‘Good’ rating and this is testament to the dedication of our staff and the care they consistently deliver within the service. I welcome independent insights into the safety and effectiveness of our services and am pleased to share this report with our teams who deserve this positive recognition.”
