Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust have been making huge strides in their digital innovations, in line with the NHS 10 Year Plan’s push for digitisation in healthcare. Now the Trust has been shortlisted for two Health Service Journal (HSJ) Digital Awards 2026.

At a time when the NHS is driving its most ambitious digital transformation yet, the HSJ Digital Awards 2026 recognise the NHS’s most ground-breaking digital projects, services and teams whose successful digital implementations are already delivering on those strategic goals with clear, measurable value.

Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust highlights a digital-first approach to service delivery, with an entire team dedicated to their BeDigital programme. They are also the hosts of Interweave, a data sharing platform used locally and nationally. The two shortlisted programmes are testament to the drive behind digitising the care they provide to improve efficiency and outcomes for patients.

The Trust’s Electronic Patient Record (EPR) project has been shortlisted in the category of ‘Outstanding Achievement in EPR Implementation and Optimisation’. This project was particularly significant due to the diversity of services and workplaces the Trust runs. Not only does the Trust cover a geographical patch that stretches as far north as Whitby and as southernly as Goole, but the range of services is vast. With some services operating as residential inpatient units, others are community based. This presents a more complex platform for introducing a new EPR, yet the Trust was able to deliver and optimise quickly and effectively.

The second shortlist is for the Interweave team. Interweave is a product hosted by Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust and trusted by multiple organisations nationally to provide shared care records. They have been recognised in the category of ‘Interoperability and Standards Through Digital’ for using national standards to connect systems, improve care coordination and streamline workflows for all their users.

Interweave delivers a proactive and collaborative solution that joins up data from multiple organisations, including NHS Trusts, ambulance services, care homes and many more. Their commitment to working with partners to better understand the user experience has meant the platform remains agile and meets the needs of all organisations.

Connecting patient records nationally remains the ultimate goal for NHS data, and these two shortlisted initiatives are vital in that journey. By bringing together the data of patients for all healthcare providers to access, the patient experience is dramatically improved and the clinicians that work with them can care more efficiently.

Lee Rickles, Chief Information Officer at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust and Programme Director for Interweave said, “To have been shortlisted and recognised in both these categories is incredible, our work in the digital world continues to be innovative and dynamic as we meet the needs of our patients and partners. Interweave is a project which has grown into one of the leading shared care record platforms. And the Trust’s EPR project identifies the drive we have to build solid foundations for our services to deliver the best possible patient care.”

The finalists of the HSJ Digital Awards 2026 are invited to attend the awards ceremony in May 2026 where the winners of each category will be announced.
