Congratulations as 29 Humber NHS Cadets Graduate from Our Third Humber NHS Cadet Programme
Published: 05 January 2026
We’re delighted to share that 29 young people have successfully graduated from our third Humber NHS Cadet Programme.
Funded by NHS England and delivered in partnership with St John Ambulance, the Humber NHS Cadet Programme offers young people aged 15–18 a fantastic opportunity to explore careers within the NHS. Through a mix of hands-on experiences, employability skills development and vital life-saving first aid training, the programme helps inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals.
This year, we were proud to see so many Humber staff involved, including colleagues from Work Experience, Volunteering and our Community Adult Learning Disability Team. Their support has been invaluable in showcasing the wide range of roles available across the NHS and helping young people see a future for themselves within our organisation.
The programme focuses on supporting young people who may face barriers to accessing opportunities like this. This includes those who are LGBTQ+, from different ethnic backgrounds, neurodivergent, disabled, or currently out of education. By exploring these barriers, the programme helps young people build the skills, confidence and ambition needed to take their next steps in life.
At the graduation event, cadets celebrated their achievements and shared their ambitions for the future, as well as what they enjoyed most about the programme. Following the ceremony, Flick, Engagement Coordinator for Children’s Services, spoke to the graduates and it was clear how much they had valued the experience. Many expressed an interest in pursuing a career with Humber in the future.
One cadet reflected on how the programme broadened their understanding of the NHS, sharing their surprise that “the NHS doesn’t just run on doctors and nurses – there are non-clinical roles such as procurement that I had never even heard of.”
Safina, Programme Lead for Humber, said:
“I want to thank every guest speaker who attended the NHS Cadets sessions. Inspiring young people in this way makes a significant impact as they consider future careers within the NHS. Hearing from staff with different backgrounds helped show that roles are varied and flexible. On behalf of the whole team, I would like to thank the Trust for being proactive and supportive of the NHS Cadets Programme.”
