A day in the life of a self-isolating Social Prescriber: day seven

Hi again, I’m Megan, the Social Prescribing PCN Link Worker for Holderness Health at the Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust and welcome to day seven of my daily blog. This blog will hopefully offer some support and information to anyone who may be in a similar situation to me, and give insight into how I am trying to maintain as much routine as possible. 

Day 2 of socially distancing in the office – a tsunami of cups of teas, chocolate digestives and deep breaths! 

It’s really nice being back in the office because the support around you is constant and available at all times – I think one of the most challenging things about home working is not having any contact and that can be really lonely. This is why Skype and having that open communication is so important to make sure you are up to date with everything and you can stay supported. 

I spent a lot of my day registering new referrals on the systems and getting clients booked in for those crucial telephone appointments to support the most vulnerable. The team have been working tirelessly that past week to clear out their ledgers and prepare for the influx of referrals we will be getting throughout the pandemic.  

My top tip of the day is: ALWAYS have your lunch breaks! This can be so hard, especially when you get work from home guilt like me – but please take some time to have a good meal and break throughout your working day.  

Phewww – today has been manic! Now most of the Community Hubs have gone live, the referrals are coming in thick and fast from our local partners. This means that we can support and help more people in the community than ever before, which is amazing. The teams across East Riding have pulled together to provide a really strong community offer to support everyone I need from befriending, to food parcels, to medicine management.  

P.S. how amazing was #clapforcarers – I had a tear!
