Diana Johnson, MP visits Miranda House

Published: 13 August 2019

Diana Johnson, MP for Kingston Upon Hull North and Member of Health Select Committee visited Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust service Miranda House today (13/08/19).

Miranda House, located on Gladstone Road, Hull, contains the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), a service for compulsorily detained adults and the Avondale Assessment Unit, an adult mental health admission assessment and triage unit. The CAMHS Crisis Service and Mental Health Response Service are also on site offering 24/7 support to service users, carers, GPs and health and social care professionals who require access to mental healthcare services.

Today’s visit follows Diana’s visit last month to the Crisis Pad based on St Georges Road, Hull. The Crisis pad offers a safe, calm and welcoming environment for young people in acute emotional distress who are referred by the CAMHS Crisis Service.

With increased pressure on mental health services and the July launch of the NHS long term plan, which aims to enable more people able to access treatment and more specialised services, tours of the service provided an opportunity to understand the patient journey from first contact to recovery.

Chief Executive of Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, Michele Moran introduced Diana to Trust staff and Head of Service, Jeanette Jones-Bragg led a tour of the building.  Michele said:

“It’s great that Diana is taking a keen interest in mental health services especially as it’s an area of increasing pressure and demand for the NHS.

Today was an opportunity to showcase areas of good practice, celebrate the fantastic work of the teams that run the services and build on Diana’s previous experience of visits to other services that we provide across the city and wider local area.”
