What is Psychosis?

Psychosis is a mental health problem that causes people to perceive or interpret things differently from those around them. About 1 in 100 people may experience an episode of psychosis, however many more people will have experiences of hearing voices or having beliefs that others do not. For many people, these experiences may be a normal part of life. PSYPHER aims to work with people and families who are distressed by experiences of Psychosis.

How do I access PSYPHER?

Getting help early is really important, so we aim to meet with you within 14 days of being referred to our service. You can access our service by visiting your GP or by calling us directly on 01482 336786.

We will try and meet you in a place that in comfortable for you. We also think that involving the people close to you is really important in the process of recovery, so we will ask you if we can meet with your family and friends.

What happens next?

We will meet with you over a few weeks to decide if PSYPHER is the best service for you. This will involve asking you, or your family, questions about your mental health. Once it has been decided that PSYPHER is the most appropriate service for you, you will meet with a Care Coordinator. A Care Coordinator is often the person who you will have the longest relationship with and helps you to think about how you can make the most of the service PSYPHER offers.

PSYPHER has lots of different professionals who you might meet for different reasons. There are nurses, social workers, support time and recover workers, occupational therapists, employment specialists, psychologists, cognitive behavioural therapists, family therapists and psychiatrists. If you are thought to be experiencing your first episode of psychosis, you will be offered a menu of the different services PSYPHER can offer.
