Meet our International Nurses

In 2021, we welcomed our first cohort of internationally recruited nurses to our Humbelievable workforce.

Since then, our dedicated international nursing recruitment team have supported multiple groups through their training and NMC Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).

As part of this project, we have developed a unique educational programme and pastoral support hub. This is a website that was designed specifically to support our international recruits when joining us, to train as Nurses in the UK.

As well as professional support around the programme and training itself, the website provides details about our Trust, our local areas, the language and useful information about coming to and living in the UK. We are proud to say this approach has been recognised and celebrated at both regional and national levels.

As we move towards the end of 2022, we wanted to take a moment to thank our fantastic international recruitment teams, and to welcome you to some of the wonderful nurses in our latest cohort.

 

Esli 

“I am Esli, a Mental Health trained nurse from Ghana. I am a Ghanaian born in Accra.

Right after my training, I was drawing to the idea of practicing Mental Health Nursing in a country which offers opportunities to develop my career and also improve the lives of its citizens. No better place to look than the UK, as I already met the qualifications required by the NMC and I had written my IELTS and CBT. 

In October 2022, I arrived in the UK (landed in Manchester Airport) and was conveyed to the City of Hull to begin my new adventure. At the time of writing this piece, it has been a little over a week since I have been here and yet to really explore the city and try new foods. But all in all, the experience has been a pleasant and a satisfying one, as I am still gradually settling into my new environment.

At the moment, passing the OSCE at first try is my highest priority. Hence, I have devoted a lot of my time and effort into studying and preparing for the exam. After passing the OSCE, my attention then shifts to passing the driver’s licensing exam and securing a suitable means of transportation which will help me be flexible.

Generally, working with the Trust has really been comfortable. I feel more supported than ever before, and the employer generally cares about your professional and personal growth. Although I have been here for a few weeks, I have not heard any grumbling about management or the company or the co-workers. I love the experience so far.”

 

Harrieta

“I have just travelled from Nigeria. I was born in Nigeria and have lived there all my life until I came to the UK. I was inspired to come to the UK as there are a wealth of career options and flexible schedules around work patterns, as well as job security. These are paramount inspirations to me.

So far, I have really enjoyed the warm reception from almost everybody I have come across. I do not feel so much away from home.

After the examination, I am looking forward to meeting more amazing people, fully working as a UK registered nurse, giving out my best skills, while putting the patient at the centre of it all, and advancing greatly in my career.

I am excited to be part of the Trust. My journey so far has been an amazing and excellent one with the help of the international recruitment team. They have been so wonderful and have made sure I get all the help I need. I am pleased to be welcomed to the Trust and looking forward to an exciting ride.”

 

Lavaughn 

“I have travelled to the UK from the Caribbean, the twin island state of Trinidad and Tobago .

I was inspired by the opportunities the UK offers to propel oneself in the field of Mental Health Nursing academically and holistically. So far, I have been enjoyed the warmth and friendless of the people in Hull! I don’t feel like am a stranger here. And the pastries are to die for! The UK pastries are top rated in my book!

After the OSCE, I am looking forward to touring the various cities in the UK and Europe. Familiarize myself with this country some more and appreciate its historic beauty.

The Trust has accepted me with open arms, they made me feel comfortable and welcome in a country that was strange to me. The acceptance by my colleagues has also made the process of transitioning from one country to another very easy.”
