Vounteers Week 2022

Published: 01 June 2022 to 31 December 2098

Volunteers Week begins on 1 June every year, and is a chance for us to recognise the invaluable contribution our NHS volunteers make to our services and local communities every day.

We would first and foremost like to take the opportunity to say a huge thank you to our voluntary services team, both staff and volunteers. You really are Humbelievable.

A small thank you is being sent to all of our volunteers to show our appreciation for all they do. we hope you join us in spreading the gratitude this week.

Volunteers Week is a great opportunity to take a moment and think about the volunteers within your teams who really make a difference. To the ones who make time to make others smile, to support people to get the right help at the right time, and to simply have someone to chat to on quiet or difficult days.

This week we will be present on social media, sharing our volunteers’ stories and helping you get to know them. We hope you will join us there and in sharing our thanks on this special week @HumberNHSFT.

You can also visit the host website, https://volunteersweek.org/ to learn more about how you can actively get involved this week to say thank you to the special volunteers in your area.

Mike's story

Mike is a Ward Visitor at Whitby Community Hospital and has been fulfilling this role for just over a year. He joined our teams on the Memorial Ward in January 2021, and he describes his role as ‘the oldest paperboy in Whitby!’

Of course, Mike’s role is so much more than that. He does indeed start his day with taking newspaper orders from the patients on the Ward and pops down to the local shop to get them for the very appreciative group of patients, but it is small tasks like these that make such a big difference to their stay. Abbie's story

Abbie joined our Volunteers team in May 2021, seeking opportunities to grow in confidence, learn new skills and experience working with mental health professionals and patients.

When asking Abbie why she chose to join NHS volunteers, she said: “I just want to make a difference and be the one to help others, like so many that have helped me in the past.” Read Abbie's full story here.
