Performance in Initiating & Delivering (PID) Clinical Research

As part of our contractual arrangements with the Department of Health, the Trust has an obligation to publish its performance on initiating and delivering clinical research. This only applies to those studies classed as (interventional) clinical trials.

We are currently measured against two national benchmarks:

  1. Initiation – it should take no more than 70 days from receipt of a valid research application (signed SSI form) by the R&D Unit to the recruitment of the first patient to the trial locally.
  2. Delivery – for all commercial clinical trials hosted by the Trust the agreed number of patients must be recruited within the agreed recruitment period.

The Trust now has to submit quarterly performance reports to the Department of Health setting out our performance. Our latest submission can be seen below.
