This aspect of the service offers prescribing and psychological interventions to support service users in their recovery and has permanent bases in Goole, Bridlington and Hull.
The service also offers satellite clinics in other areas to ensure that those who need the service are able to access it.
The Team
The team works with patients who have primary drug or alcohol problems necessitating substitute prescribing and/or medical detoxifications.
The main components of this aspect of the service are:
Comprehensive assessment
Case management
Substitute prescribing (titration and maintenance)
Structured community detoxification
Screen and assessment of co-morbid mental health problems
Liaison and joint working with mental health services
Advice and consultation to other professionals, e.g. Social Services, housing and acute hospital
Facilitate access to other services, e.g. residential rehabilitation, inpatient care, mental health services etc.
The team also works within GP practices within a ‘shared care’ protocol approach.
Addiction workers support prescribing GPs with the management of their own practice patients who are experiencing problems with drug or alcohol use. This approach increases the number of locations across the area where drug and alcohol services are available to local people.
Interventions include:
Case management
Substitute prescribing (titration and maintenance)
Preparation for detoxification
Harm minimisation
Monitoring of treatment progress
Liaison with other professionals/agencies, i.e. children and families, Social Services, housing, generic mental health services
