The Community Development Team is dedicated to working with Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities with the aim of improving mental health services provision and individual wellbeing. The workers also encourage open debate about what mental health actually means to different people from different communities. It is also intended that as a result mental health services will best reflect the specific needs of the communities they serve.

Many people from BME groups do not get the kind of help they want when they access mental health services. The services do not always address their specific needs as they may not reflect their relevant cultures. A cycle of fear regarding mental health services can result from this.
The delivering racial equality (DRE) programme works with people of all age groups from Irish or Mediterranean origin, Gypsey Travellers and East European migrants as well as refugees and asylum seekers.
We work with anyone who is interested in improving the mental health of BME communities in the East Riding of Yorkshire. We also work in conjunction and partnership with Humber All Nations Alliance (HANA) community development workers who are based in Hull. We take a very positive approach: if you can see a problem we believe you can help find a solution. We work best with communities but if you feel you are on your own, we will help you to find other people who share your concerns and who are interested in doing something about those concerns.
