Equality impact assessments

We actively encourage the use of Equality Impact Assessments for our policy, protocols, procedures, tenders and service development/changes.  This is to ensure equality and diversity issues are considered at all levels within the Trust policies, procedures and service provision.

What is an equality impact assessment (EIA)?

An EIA is a mechanism that supports managers to analyse a document or process or service in relation to its impact on various groups of people in our community.

Why undertake an EIA?

It is a legal requirement under equality and diversity legislation that all documents or processes and services are subject to an EIA. They are also required by many official bodies such as the Health Care Commission, Department of Health and Strategic Health Authority.
EIAs also act as a method of improving our services. They are a tool to drive forward change and should lead to improvements in the way we formulate policy and deliver our services.
